Audrey Hepburn, Centennial Park and You this Mother's Day

fLOWERS

"To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow" - Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn was an avid gardener. She felt that gardens are a proof of life and that our innate love for flowers is imprinted in our DNA, connecting us to wellness and giving us comfort and beauty.

We think like Audrey Hepburn - don't you? You can believe in tomorrow by giving a most joyous gift of planting flowers in Centennial Park in honor of a mother on her memorable day. With a minimum donation of $50, The Conservancy for the Parthenon and Centennial Park will plant flowers in the park and send an eCard letting that special someone in your life know that you have helped to pretty Centennial Park with a beautiful array of colorful flowers. We think that Audrey Hepburn would have enjoyed strolling through Centennial Park with its flowering beauty. Give your mother, aunt, sister, or someone important in your life the gift that will show her how much you appreciate her the next time she comes to the park and enjoys the lovely landscape your gift helped create. Help us plant a garden, and give life to Audrey Hepburn's wish.

GONE SOUTH: A Collection of Images from the American South

GONE SOUTH: A Collection of Images from the American South

The Parthenon announces an exhibition of photography by Jerry Atnip. Entitled GONE SOUTH: A Collection of Images from the American South, these photographs document the southern landscape in Florida, Tennessee, Texas, and Georgia. Atnip describes them as "something between waking and dreaming" and separately, many are meditatively quiet and still. Using intensely controlled light and printing, each photograph offers a moment for thought. The sepia-toned images may remind us of the passage of time and the environment's ecological fragility. But the subjects themselves insist on the patience and durability of the natural world. Many of the images in the exhibition are in Atnip's book, Gone South, which will be available for purchase in the museum store during the exhibition.

The museum will host an opening reception for the artist on Friday, May 12, from 6-8 p.m. On Thursday, June 1st, Atnip will participate in an interview-format discussion with Paul Polycarpu, editor of the Nashville Arts Magazine. The discussion begins at 6:00 p.m. and will be followed by a short reception. Both events are free and the public is encouraged to attend.

The exhibit opens May 7 through August 27. Admission to the Parthenon is $6 for adults; $4 for seniors 62 and over; and $4 for children 4-17. Children under 4 are admitted free. Admission includes access to all exhibitions and the Parthenon's upper level, graced by the colossal statue of the goddess Athena.
