REMEMBERING SOLDIERS IN THE GREAT WAR
The Conservancy for the Parthenon and Centennial Park invites you to join Maestro Rik Ghesquiere, musicians from the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra, and a children's choir from I.T. Creswell Middle School in honoring the stories and sacrifices of soldiers and their families on the Centennial of the end of the Great War. Presented multiple times in Belgium, the musical celebration is now welcomed to the United States for the first time, with two Nashville performances at Montgomery Bell Academy and Hillwood High School on November 10 and 11. We hope you will join us at one of these events.
ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
The heart touching stories and sacrifices of battle are brought powerfully to life as Maestro Rik Guesquiere and several members of the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra celebrate the centennial of the end World War I in music and spoken word with "Remembrance World War I," comprised of two sections: "Moeder zonder meer" (Just a Mother) and composed by Piet Swerts, is based on a poem honoring soldiers and the loved ones who awaited their return. "Breiven van de ziel" (Letters from the Soul), composed by Jurgen De Pillecyn, speaks to the suffering of fathers through authentic letters and poems written by soldiers and their children, and will be performed by the musicians accompanied by the voices of a children's choir from Nashville's I.T. Creswell Middle School for the Arts. Although performed several times in Europe, the Nashville concerts mark the only U.S. performances.
